Reuploading this piece now that I have a better idea of posting my art
Since I draw most of my new art in a 512 x 512 pixel square, if I post the original file then Instagram will try to upscale the original image using Interpolation which blends pixels together and makes it look all messed up. This technique is good for upscaling low-resolution photos of real life the human eye naturally sees things blurry when it canât focus. HOWEVER, I donât want my pixels to be blended when presented in larger dimensions, so to prevent Instagram from upscaling the original image, I take a screenshot of the 512px piece in Procreate so that instead of it being 512x itâs whatever the pixel dimensions of my iPad are and so Instagram thinks itâs âhigh resolutionâ.
Still though, Instagram converts every image into a JPEG format, which compresses your image and gives your image a lower quality look regardless, but it still looks better than if it gets upscaled.
If you do want to post images without them being compressed, Twitter lets you upload full-sized, uncompressed images! They also show images in their original dimensions so you donât have to worry about cropping your image.
Maybe in the future Iâll post to Twitter, but for now Instagram gives more engagement ð
